How to Use a Quick-Tach to Attach Equipment

Looking to improve efficiency with your equipment? Well, luckily, the farming and landscaping industries figured this out with Quick-Tach systems to enhance operational efficiency. The universal Quick-Tach systems have become the industry standard, being compatible with most equipment manufacturers, including Tomahawk Attachments. But if you’re using other brands, you may want to check if they have a brand-specific system. That said, we want to explain how to use Quick-Tach to attach equipment.

What is the Quick-Tach System?

Quick-Tach is the industry standard system for attaching and detaching equipment from the front of tractors and loaders. With levers and locks (which we’ll explain in a minute), it’s designed to make attaching equipment quick, easy, and secure.

When done the right way, the Quick-Tach system is efficient and safe. Farmers and employees can complete quick changes of attachments with confidence and save time in the process.

Preparing to Use the Quick-Tach System

So, when you purchase an attachment which uses the Quick-Tach system, you’d probably be excited to start putting it to work! Here’s how to do it:

Safety First

For safety precautions, we would advise referring to typical tractor safety precautions, with some common sense. To list a few precautions:

  • Know What You’re Doing: Check and understand instructions, receive proper training, and ask questions if you need to!
  • Wear Appropriate Clothing: Wear safe work clothes, and as much extra protection as necessary (gloves, earmuffs, etc.).
  • Check the Terrain: Think about where you’re doing your quick changes. We recommend somewhere flat with enough room to comfortably get the job done.

Initial Setup

The only setup you need when attaching your equipment is the tractor and the attachment itself. It helps to have these two lined-up on a flat enough surface with enough room to maneuver comfortably.

Attaching Equipment with Quick-Tach

Ready to get the attachment hooked up? Let’s make it happen!

Aligning the Loader

You’ll want to align your loader with the attachment. To do this, simply line up your tractor’s or loader’s arms with the back Quick-Tach receiver on the attachment. It should be centered and even. Make sure the arms’ two levers on the front are pulled up in an unlocked position.

Engaging the Attachment

After aligning the loader, simply drive your tractor’s loader arms into the back Quick-Tach receiver on the attachment. This should be a straight, clean shot. Then, tilt the arms upward a bit to get the attachment to fall into place.

Securing the Attachment

Now that the attachment is on, you need to secure it. Go ahead and put your parking brake on, and head over to the attachment. Remember the two levers we had you pull up before? Now go ahead and press them all the way down until they fully lock. Visually check, too, that they lock into place with the attachment.

Detaching Equipment with Quick-Tach

After a hard day’s work, it’s time to detach:

Clearing the Area

Like attaching, you’ll want to make sure you have plenty of room to detach your equipment. You’ll need room to drop off the attachment, back up the tractor, and sort out everything else from there, so keep that in mind.

Releasing the Attachment

To release the attachment, go and pull up on those levers again. This will unlock the mechanism.

Disengage

Now you’re unlocked, you’ll get in the loader or tractor. Turn it on, set down the attachment, take some weight off, bring arms forward, and back up to completely detach from the equipment.

Tips & Troubleshooting

As you can see, this complete process is pretty simple. But we still have a couple of quick tips to make sure your Quick-Tach system serves you well.

  • Lock it Down: Really take your time and make sure that everything locks securely into place. If things aren’t locked correctly, things may bend and break, and cause a whole bunch of headaches.
  • Do Some Research: Certain manufacturers do use their own special Quick-Tach system variants that’s only compatible with their attachments. Check out the brand(s) you use to find out if they work with the universal Quick-Tach system.
  • Take Your Time: Until you get fully comfortable using a tractor, or attaching equipment, go at a steady pace for you. No need to rush and crash the tractor into the attachment! Take your time, ask questions if you need to, and do it the right way.
